Drill Ties are manufactured and stocked in the most common 15 sizes used in traditional pour-in-place wood & lumber concrete forming systems.   

Product sizes are defined by the 3 following attributes:

#1  Form Dimension – size of finished concrete element

The primary measure is the dimension of final poured concrete element.

Concrete columns & beams at actual measured sizes of the finished concrete dimension.  The poured concrete dimension is almost always 8", 10", 12"... in 2" increments to a max of 24".

There are also 3 Drill Tie sizes for the most used ‘common block’ sizes which are 3/8” less than the stated Nominal Size to allow for 3/8” stucco finish coat (for example… an 8x8x16 nominal size is actually 7 5/8" wide).  These are common in CBS header and tie-beam applications.

#2  Form Board Used

Dimension of Form Board used for the concrete form.  Standard ¾” plywood for typical applications.  Certain Drill Tie sizes are designed for use with 5/8” plywood.    

#3  Bracing Type Used

The most common form bracing utilizes a Flat Waler 2x4 as bracing.  Standard Drill Tie sizes have a 2 ¼” ‘Tail’ to allow for ¾” Form Board and 1 ½” Flat Waler 2x4 Bracing. 

Long-Tail Drill Tie sizes are for form bracing utilizing Strong-Back 2x4 on-end with cross 2x4 flat waler.  The Long-Tail ‘Tail’ is 5 ¾” to accommodate ¾” Form Play, 3 ½” Waler of Edge, and 1 ½” Flat Waler. 

Sizes are COLOR CODED to simplify ordering, stocking and field application. 

Drill Ties are sold in Bundles of 50.   Drill Tie Clips are sold in Boxes of 100.

Typical order nomenclature is 10 Bundles Green, 5 Bundles Yellow, and 5 Boxes of Clips

Other Features

The MAX LENGTH for concrete forms is 24” for Standard Sizes, and 16” for Long-Tail Sizes. 

Break-points are set ¼” inside the finished concrete form dimension to allow clean finish. 

The Primary Notch is used to secure the Drill Tie Clip and lock in the form.

A Secondary Notch is set 1” outside the Primary Notch that can be used as a leverage point to ‘suck in’ forms to engage the Drill Tie Clip on the Primary Notch. 

Special Sizes & Applications

Special sizes can be manufactured to accommodate variety of structural or design goals.

Most common are design specs that call for unique concrete sizes, such as a 9” beam.  No problem.

Board-Formed Concrete uses wooden boards (often rough-sawn lumber or plywood) or other inserts to imprint a grain or texture of the wood onto the finished concrete surface.  We can easily produce the required Drill Tie for your application, but must be sure of exact sizing and orientation due to the asymmetric nature of the forming.
